Ms. Roberts - Second Grade

Introduction - My name is Ms. Roberts and I am very excited to be teaching the students at Central Elementary. I have been teaching since 2004.  I received my degree and teaching credential from National University. Before joining the Central team I taught 3rd grade in Lemoore for 11 years. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and reading.

I have listed a few items below regarding homework and behavior.  I am thrilled to be able to teach your child and I am looking forward to a great year!  Please feel free to contact me at school.  The best time to reach me is between the hours of 2:15 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. My extension is 2223

Homework - Students receive a homework packet in a folder on Mondays. The completed packet is due on Friday morning in the folder.  It is also important to send a backpack everyday to stay organized. Students will have a Homework Folder where they will keep the weekly homework packet. Please check this folder and backpack on a daily basis for school notes and information that is sent home.  Generally, the students receive a page of English Language Arts and Math assigned for each night. Homework is designed to review and reinforce skills that were previously taught in class.  In addition to the homework that is sent home, students are to read for at least 20 minutes a day. Students are expected to record this activity on the reading log.

Conduct – Students are expected to behave appropriately at school.  We have a clip chart in class that includes consequences for inappropriate as well as appropriate behavior.  All students start each day on Green for Ready to Learn. Students can move up the chart for making good choices, being prepared, and on task throughout the day. They can move up to Yellow for Good Day, Orange for Great Job, and Red for Outstanding. If students are not making good choices they will have to move down the chart. The first move down is Blue Think About It, which is a warning. Then next move down is Purple for Teacher’s Choice (this may include loss of recess time or snack shack). The final move down is Gray for Parent Contact.

Rewards – Often times, students may be rewarded randomly with “Good Guy” tickets.  When they earn 5 tickets, they may buy something from my private treasure box.  I also have a class reward system in place.  Their goal is to fill a jar with marbles in order to receive a special treat or reward such as an art day or fun outdoor activities. They can earn marbles by making good choices as a class and when everyone works together to make class time more productive.  Attendance is very important.  Therefore, five marbles are put in the jar every day that we have perfect attendance.

Home and School Connection – Please take the time to talk to your child about what they are learning at school and ask them how their day went.  Being able to communicate to you what they are learning and what they may be struggling with will help us all have a better and more successful year.  Together, we can help your child be best that they can be!
